The survival of licensed brands, like the Ambassador and Royal Enfield, is confirmation that motoring for many in India is purely functional

They work: they’re fine: no need to change


We are enchanted by the vehicles from a past age
The ordinary Indian driver doesn’t understand firstly, why we ever stopped buying the Ambassador and secondly, why we are so excited about buying it again fifty years after we stopped
